Position Overview
Cummings, Keegan, & Co., P.L.L.P., a mid-sized public accounting firm, is seeking two full-time Senior Accountants to join our rapidly growing Tax Services team. This position provides exceptional service to our privately-held business clients by utilizing in depth accounting and tax knowledge to prepare and deliver complex individual and business tax returns and perform other accounting services.
Qualified candidates will have experience applying accounting knowledge with an emphasis in tax, advanced Microsoft Excel skills, and demonstrated experience working with clients. Ideal candidates will have an active CPA license.
Essential Functions
The essential functions of the Senior Accountant position are performed in a collaborative team environment with leadership and supervision as necessary.
Position responsibilities include:
- Preparing individual and corporate tax returns.
- Preparing periodic compilations for assigned clients.
- Prioritizing and delegating workload to achieve deadlines.
- Organizing and managing client assignments and projects.
- Supervising department interns and seasonal employees as assigned.
- Communicating directly with clients and delivering exceptional service.
- Mentoring staff on assigned engagements to ensure quality and timeliness.
- Training and mentoring new staff on procedures, systems, and technical skill development.
- Collaborating within the department and throughout the firm to accomplish workload.
- Engaging in networking, community involvement, and business development.
- Performing in-charge responsibilities on assigned projects and clients.
- Assisting with special accounting or tax related projects as assigned.
- Participating in interviewing candidates and onboarding new staff.
- Skilled use of various accounting and client-specific software.
- Researching and applying tax law updates.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
- Minimum 2 years preparing individual and business tax returns in a public accounting setting.
- CPA candidate required; CPA license preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with accounting, bookkeeping, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Office Suite, and Adobe.
- Experience utilizing professional tax preparation software and QuickBooks required.
- Experience with UltraTax and SurePrep preferred.
Schedule
Core hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Minimum expectation of 54 hours per week, January through mid April. Alternative work schedules may be considered.
Work Environment
Flexible work arrangement available onsite, Minnesota remote, or hybrid. The onsite setting is a professional office environment with extensive use of standard office equipment and technology including computers, web-based and desktop phones, webcams, headsets, scanners, photocopiers, and software applications and programs.
Physical Requirements
The essential functions of this position require:
- Travel and onsite work at local and remote client locations as assigned.
- The ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
- Verbal, written, electronic communication, and accurate information exchange.
- Review of physical and electronic documentation and ability to inspect accuracy.
- Consistent operation of a computer, keyboard, printer, and other office equipment.
